My family has been to several Great Wolf Lodge resorts across the United States.
While we’ve enjoyed each of them, nothing has impressed us quite like the ones in Texas.
Specifically, the locations in Dallas and Houston have delivered experiences we’ll never forget.
A Magical Escape That Rivals Disney
Though our kids adore Disney vacations, they’re just as thrilled by trips to Great Wolf Lodge.
The resorts offer similar immersive experiences, but with significantly less stress and cost.
From themed rooms to thrilling water slides, there’s something for everyone.
Texas Locations Take It to the Next Level
Our recent visits to the Dallas and Houston resorts proved that Texas does it best.
The Dallas location has undergone a $40 million renovation, and the updates are stunning.
Meanwhile, the Houston resort, which opened in August, is the brand’s first “next-generation” lodge.
This means it includes modern design, premium amenities, and innovative attractions.
Immersive Rooms and Cozy Vibes
Though the buildings may look plain from the outside, inside they are anything but.
We stayed in woodland-themed KidCabin suites that sleep up to six people.
With bunk beds, leather couches, glowing lanterns, and themed decorations, the rooms felt magical.
Even the ceiling gave the illusion of a glowing night sky, adding to the charm.
Epic Water Parks Included
Access to the indoor, climate-controlled water parks is included with every stay.
Each resort features signature rides like the Howlin’ Tornado, wave pools, and lazy rivers.
The Houston location impressed us with the Rapid Racer — the most fun slide I’ve ever been on.
It sends riders through twin racing slides and even propels them uphill with hydraulic power.
Endless Activities for Every Age
Aside from water attractions, there’s a long list of things to do at both locations.
We purchased multi-tiered passes that granted access to all paid activities, plus extras like free ice cream and arcade credits.
Our youngest loved panning for gold and playing mini golf.
The older kids enjoyed zip lining and navigating rope courses.
Both resorts also feature arcades, mini-bowling, laser tag, and even virtual reality games.
MagiQuest: Our Favourite Bonding Activity
One standout activity was MagiQuest — an interactive scavenger hunt using magical wands.
Kids follow a storyline and solve puzzles throughout the lodge, guided by enchanted creatures.
It was a fun and memorable experience that kept us all engaged for hours.
Food, Convenience, and Local Fun
Dining at the resorts is easy with buffets, quick service counters, and sit-down restaurants.
While more dinner variety would be appreciated, not having to leave the property for meals was a major plus.
However, we did explore nearby attractions like NASA’s Houston Space Center and Pleasure Pier, which were easily accessible.
Great Value for Families
Compared to theme park trips, Great Wolf Lodge offers exceptional value.
Our suites cost a little over $200 per night — far less than the cost of just one day at a theme park.
A basic day at Disneyland for our family of six would cost over $800, excluding accommodations.
At Great Wolf Lodge, that same amount can cover a suite and full access to the water park.
We’re Already Planning Our Next Visit
Between the immersive rooms, fun-filled water parks, and wide range of activities, the Texas resorts exceeded our expectations.
They delivered Disney-level excitement without the stress or price tag.
We can’t wait to return — and we’re already planning another trip for next year.
