Nigeria: Julius Abure Labels Peter Obi an ‘Uber’ Politician Ahead of By-Elections

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) has criticized Peter Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, describing him as an ‘Uber’ politician.

Abure made the remarks in a statement personally signed on Friday, responding to Obi’s recent political directives.

Accusations of Political Opportunism

Abure accused Obi of elevating subterfuge in politics, claiming that he has often cried wolf where none existed.

He further stated that Obi has affiliated with numerous political parties simultaneously, all in his bid to assume leadership of Nigeria, a feat Abure says could earn him a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

Obi’s Actions Called a Paradox

“It is unfortunate that Obi has turned himself into an irony and a paradox in the Nigerian political space,” Abure said.

“He has become an ‘Uber’ politician, unwilling to take a clear stance or stand by his decisions,” he added.

Context: By-Election Directives

Abure’s statement comes in response to Peter Obi’s instructions ahead of the August 16, 2025 by-elections.

Obi had asked his supporters to back the candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in upcoming by-elections across various states.

Final Remarks

The Julius Abure-led LP faction sees Obi’s moves as politically opportunistic, warning that such actions could further complicate Nigeria’s political landscape.
