Less than 24 hours after losing the bid to succeed her late husband, Justina Azuka, candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has been appointed as a legislative aide by Senator Tony Nwoye.
She now serves as Senior Special Adviser on Special Duties to the federal lawmaker.

Mrs. Azuka had contested the Onitsha North 1 State Constituency by-election, previously held by her late husband, Justice Azuka, who was kidnapped and subsequently killed.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced Mimih Ifeoma Azikiwe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the winner, with Mrs. Azuka finishing closely behind.

Senator Nwoye’s decision to appoint her was aimed at supporting her family and children left behind by her late husband.
She reportedly received an appointment letter in a public ceremony, and her new role comes with a monthly salary of N200,000.

The appointment has drawn praise from many, including Peter Mmeagana, who described it as a demonstration of empathy rarely seen among Nigerian politicians.
He noted that this action helps cushion the impact of her husband’s death and supports her family despite the electoral loss.
