The Abia State government has vowed to prosecute individuals spreading false information about the state.
This was disclosed by the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, on Monday while briefing journalists on the outcome of the weekly executive council meeting presided over by Governor Alex Otti.
No Gestapo Tactics, But Law Will Apply
Kanu emphasized that although the current administration will not adopt the oppressive methods of the past, it will not tolerate the spread of falsehoods that create disaffection among citizens.
He warned that those responsible for publishing fake news against the state will face the law.
Rising Trend of Falsehood
The Commissioner raised concerns about the increasing trend of misinformation targeted at the Abia State government.
He vowed that those behind such damaging publications will no longer be allowed to operate unchecked.
Commitment to Transparency
Kanu assured that Governor Otti’s administration is not hiding any information from the public.
He stressed that transparency remains a core principle of the government.
New Chief Economic Adviser Appointed
During the briefing, the Commissioner announced that Friday Kalu Ohuche has been sworn in as the Chief Economic Adviser to Abia State.
This move, he explained, strengthens the state’s commitment to sound economic governance.
Inauguration of Economic Management Team
Governor Alex Otti also inaugurated the Abia Economic Management Team during the executive meeting.
Kanu clarified that this development does not abolish the role of the Abia Global Economic Advisory Council.
Global Advisory Council Still Relevant
The global advisory council includes prominent figures such as the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Mohammad, Arunma Otteh, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and Bolaji Balogun.
According to Kanu, the council continues to play a vital role in shaping Abia’s long-term economic strategy.
