Abu Dhabi: 4-Month-Old Left Brain Dead After Crash That Killed Parents

On August 7, engineer Syed Waheed, 35, and his wife, Sana Begum, 27, died in a tragic road accident while returning home to Al Ruwais from Abu Dhabi. Their car struck a divider before crashing into a pole.

Inside the vehicle were the couple’s three children — Sidra, 7, Sadia, 2, and their 4-month-old baby boy.

Children’s Injuries

The baby sustained severe brain injuries and is currently on a ventilator, with doctors warning that he may not survive. His sisters suffered fractures in their legs but are expected to be discharged soon, according to family members.

Family in Shock

The children’s uncle, Syed Mateen, expressed the family’s devastation:

“There has been no improvement and doctors have told us that he may not survive. I can’t think properly, it’s too much of a shock to see the baby on a ventilator.”

The maternal grandfather, Syed Ismail, added that the family has not yet told the sisters about their parents’ deaths. “How do you tell children this news?” he asked.

Community and Funeral

The parents’ remains were flown to Hyderabad, India, where funerals were held on August 9. Relatives coordinated with the Indian Embassy to return the bodies.

Meanwhile, Ismail has traveled to the UAE to take custody of the three children. “We can only pray to Allah for the baby,” he said, urging others to join them in prayer.

Remembering the Parents

Mateen recalled his last meeting with Waheed and Sana just before the crash. He described Waheed as a man of generosity and integrity:

“He would do anything for people in need and never ask for anything in return. I learned from him about helping people.”

Ismail remembered his daughter as a devoted mother. “Her dreams were only for the children — she wanted to give them the world,” he said.
