A former Zamfara State governorship candidate and All Progressives Congress (APC) member, Dr. Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt on Friday in Abuja.
Attack Occurred After Friday Prayers
Shinkafi said the incident took place shortly after Juma’at prayers on August 15, when masked, heavily armed men dressed in black intercepted his vehicle.
The assailants reportedly attacked him before fleeing the scene in a black, unmarked Prado Jeep.
Link to His Criticism of Insecurity
In a statement issued through the Patriots for the Advancement of Peace and Social Development, Shinkafi described the assault as an “unprovoked attempt” on his life.
He suggested it was connected to his outspoken criticism of insecurity in Zamfara State and other pressing national issues.
Refusing to Be Silenced
Shinkafi vowed that threats and intimidation would not stop his advocacy for national security, peace, unity, and social development.
“I will not be deterred by intimidation or harassment,” he emphasized.
Previous Threats and Call for Investigation
He revealed that before this incident, he had received multiple threatening calls at his Abuja residence, which he believes were linked to the attack.
Shinkafi urged the Inspector General of Police and the Department of State Services (DSS) to investigate the matter and bring the attackers and their sponsors to justice.
