Abuja Atiku’s son-in-law denies EFCC claim of evading arrest

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently declared Bashir Abdullahi Haske, son-in-law to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, wanted.

He was accused of involvement in alleged multi-million-dollar money laundering and criminal conspiracy.

Allegations Linked to NNPCL Contracts

According to the EFCC, the allegations are tied to contracts connected to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).

Funds traced from these contracts were allegedly funneled into multiple accounts linked to Haske.

Haske Denies Wrongdoing

In response, Haske, through his media office, rejected the allegations.

He described the EFCC’s action as a politically motivated witch-hunt, insisting that he has nothing to hide.

Claims of Cooperation with Investigators

Haske stated that contrary to EFCC’s claim, he had already honoured their invitation.

He appeared before investigators, presented oral explanations, and submitted documentary evidence to prove the legitimacy of his financial transactions.

Allegations of Unlawful Detention

The businessman further alleged that EFCC denied him administrative bail even after he fulfilled the conditions.

He said he was unlawfully detained until his health deteriorated, leading to a near-collapse while in custody.

Release Due to Health Concerns

Haske explained that he was eventually released on bail only after his worsening medical condition raised fears about his survival.

He confirmed that he is still undergoing treatment.

Rebuke of EFCC’s Claims

Describing the anti-graft agency’s stance as “shocking and disingenuous,” Haske maintained that EFCC’s claims of him running away were false.

He said the agency was fully aware that his health crisis was a result of their own misconduct during detention
