The former vice-presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Senator Datti Baba-Ahmed, has strongly criticized the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing it of conducting a “fraudulent and bad” election in 2023.
Posterity Will Judge INEC
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Baba-Ahmed maintained that INEC’s actions during the last general elections were inconsistent with the Nigerian Constitution. He warned that posterity, Nigerians, and history would ultimately judge the commission.
No Energy for Criticism
The former lawmaker explained that he had never been a critic of INEC in the past, but noted that the manner in which the results were declared had “finished Nigerians.”
Governance Under Question
Baba-Ahmed emphasized that INEC had already declared a government, and the outcome is now evident in the quality of governance being delivered.
Call for Accountability
“INEC has done what it has done,” he said, stressing that the commission’s conscience and the verdict of Nigerians would eventually hold it accountable.
