The Interim National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), David Mark, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure impartiality and transparency in the by-elections scheduled for Saturday across several states.
Goodwill Message to ADC Candidates
In a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Paul Mumeh, Mark conveyed his goodwill to ADC candidates contesting for senatorial, House of Representatives, and State Houses of Assembly seats. He emphasized the importance of restoring public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system.
ADC Contesting Across 10 States
The ADC will field candidates in by-elections taking place in Anambra, Edo, Oyo, Taraba, Adamawa, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, Niger, and Ogun States. Mark described the ADC as a “child of necessity” born from a genuine desire to provide Nigerians with an alternative platform for better governance.
Appeal to the Electorate
Mark urged voters to give the party an opportunity to prove its capacity and credibility. He also reminded INEC that “all eyes are on the commission” to correct past mistakes that have damaged its public perception.
Restoring INEC’s Reputation
According to Mark, conducting a free, fair, and credible election on Saturday could significantly help redeem INEC’s image and reaffirm its commitment to democracy.
Commendation for ADC Candidates
Mark praised ADC candidates for their courage and dedication to the political process. He encouraged them and their supporters to follow electoral laws while remaining alert to any form of manipulation or intimidation.
Call for Security Agencies’ Support
In addition, Mark urged security agencies to ensure a level playing field for all parties and to protect the will of the people from any interference or coercion.
