The Federal Government has shut down 22 illegal Colleges of Education operating across Nigeria.

NCCE Confirms Crackdown on Unapproved Institutions
According to a recent report, the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) revealed that the illegal institutions were discovered during a nationwide inspection.
These schools had been running without government approval or accreditation.
NCCE’s Monitoring and Auditing Efforts
The Commission further disclosed that it also carried out a personnel audit and financial monitoring across all 21 federal Colleges of Education in Nigeria.
This move is aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and quality assurance in the sector.
Tinubu Orders Intensified Fight Against Fake Institutions
Weeks earlier, President Bola Tinubu directed federal education agencies to strengthen their fight against illegal higher institutions.
The President emphasized the need to safeguard Nigeria’s education system from “certificate millers” who issue fake academic qualifications.
Tinubu’s Warning on Education Integrity
Speaking at the 14th Convocation Ceremony of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), President Tinubu, represented by Rakiya Ilyasu, Director of University Education at the Ministry of Education, reiterated his administration’s commitment.
He stressed that maintaining credibility in education is essential for Nigeria’s development.
