President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm wishes to former military president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) on the occasion of his 84th birthday.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised Babangida’s significant role in Nigeria’s political, military, and socio-economic development.
A Distinguished Military Career
The president highlighted Babangida’s decorated service in the Nigerian Army, including his positions as instructor at the Nigerian Defence Academy, Commander of the 4 Reconnaissance Regiment and Armoured Corps, Director of Army Staff Duties and Plans, and eventually, Chief of Army Staff.
Legacy of His Administration
Tinubu reflected on Babangida’s years in office, noting key infrastructure projects such as the Third Mainland Bridge and wide-ranging economic reforms that opened up Nigeria’s economy.
Institutional Contributions
He also commended Babangida for establishing critical national institutions, including the State Security Service (SSS), National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA), and the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). His tenure also witnessed the creation of new states and the relocation of Nigeria’s capital from Lagos to Abuja.
