
Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, has announced a vacancy for the role of Vice-Chancellor, effective from 13th July 2025.
The University’s Governing Council is calling on qualified Professors to submit their applications as the selection process begins.
This is a rare leadership opportunity for academics with a strong blend of teaching, research, and administrative experience within Nigerian universities.
About Al-Hikmah University
Founded in 2005 after receiving a licence from the Federal Government of Nigeria, Al-Hikmah University is a faith-based private institution committed to Islamic values.
In its 20 years of existence, the University has produced 16 graduating sets and currently operates from three campuses – Adeta, Atere, and Igbaja.
It has 11 faculties, including Law, Engineering, Nursing, Agriculture, and Education, along with a College of Health Sciences and a Postgraduate School.
As of the 2023/2024 academic session, it had 11,997 students enrolled.
Role and Responsibilities of the Vice-Chancellor
The Vice-Chancellor will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer of the University and report directly to the Governing Council.
Their duties include:
- Overseeing staff, students, and university resources.
- Maintaining order and ensuring smooth operations.
- Implementing all laws, statutes, rules, and regulations guiding the institution.
Eligibility Criteria
Only candidates who meet the following conditions should apply:
- Possess a PhD in a relevant discipline.
- Be a Professor for at least seven years by the time of appointment.
- Must not be older than 64 years on the date of assumption of duty.
- Must have 15+ years of combined academic and administrative experience in Nigerian universities.
- Be well-known locally and internationally for academic excellence.
- Must be physically and mentally fit for the demands of the role.
- Be God-fearing, trustworthy, and committed to the mission of the University.
- Should be capable of growing internal revenue and attracting local and international research grants.
- Must be ICT literate and experienced in relationship building with staff, students, alumni, and stakeholders.
Terms of Service
The role is for a non-renewable term of five years.
Pay and benefits align with what is offered in other Nigerian universities.
Additional terms will be stated in the official appointment letter or as determined by the Governing Council.

Deadline and Referee Submission
All applications must be sent within two weeks from the date of this announcement.
Referees must also send their Confidential Reports to the same email address within the same period.
Only candidates who are shortlisted will be invited for the next stage of the selection process.
