Kaizer Chiefs’ newest signing, Asenele Velebayi, has shared the excitement of finally completing his long-awaited move to the club.
The 22-year-old winger, formerly of Cape Town Spurs, revealed that the first person he called after hearing the news was his mother.
From Cape Town to Chiefs Glory
Born in Phillipi, Cape Town, and originally from the Eastern Cape, Velebayi became a Glamour Boy last week after signing a long-term contract with Kaizer Chiefs.
He told the club’s media:
“I can’t even describe the feeling. When I heard the news that I was officially joining Kaizer Chiefs, the first thing I did was call my mother and family to share the good news. I was so happy. It has always been my dream to come here, and I aim to make the most of this amazing opportunity.”
Football Journey
Velebayi began playing football at around seven or eight years old, inspired by his two brothers.
- His first team was in his Phillipi township.
- At age 11, he joined Ajax Cape Town, now known as Cape Town Spurs, where he remained until his move to Chiefs.
Playing Style and Positions
Velebayi can play on the right wing, as a number 10, or as a left winger, which he considers his preferred position.
He emphasized his commitment to the team, stating he is ready to perform any role required to help the club succeed.
