Operatives of the Edo State Security Corps (ESSC) have arrested a middle-aged man identified only as Adamu.
He is suspected of vandalizing old vehicles belonging to the Edo Line transport company in Benin City.
Scene of the Crime
The suspect was apprehended at the former Edo Line premises located on James Watt Road in Benin City.
He was reportedly caught while vandalizing abandoned vehicles and removing parts from them.
Suspect’s Background and Alleged Gang Activity
It was gathered that Adamu, who hails from Kano State, belongs to a gang specializing in dismantling unserviceable vehicles for resale.
His accomplices reportedly remain at large, escaping through the company’s fence.
Stolen Vehicle Parts
The engines and other vehicle parts had already been stolen by the suspects prior to the arrest.
Security operatives acted based on credible intelligence to apprehend Adamu at the scene.
Police Response
When contacted, Moses Yamu, spokesperson for the Edo State Police Command, stated that he was not aware of the incident.
The investigation into the vandalism and the search for the remaining suspects are ongoing.
