The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the creation of two additional Area Commands in Benue State.
Alongside this, five Police Stations have been elevated to full Divisions to strengthen security presence and operational efficiency across the state.
Purpose of the Restructuring
According to a statement from the Benue State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, the restructuring addresses operational challenges faced in certain local government areas.
These challenges included long distances between communities and existing security formations, which had slowed police response to emergencies.
Details of the New Commands and Upgrades
The two new Area Commands are Daudu Area Command and Naka Area Command.
The five upgraded Police Stations, now full Divisions, include Ayilamo, Yelwata, Jato-Aka, Okpokolo, and Agan.
Daudu Area Command will oversee Guma, Daudu, Yelwata, and Agan Police Divisions, while Naka Area Command will supervise Naka, Apa, Agatu, and Okpokolo Police Divisions.
Expected Benefits
DSP Edet explained that the adjustments will improve policing in areas with challenging terrain, ensure faster resolution of conflicts between farmers and herders, and allow for prompt response to distress calls.
Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, commended the IGP for the timely intervention and also thanked Governor Hyacinth Alia for his continued support in ensuring the protection of lives and property.
