The Ebonyi State Police Command has released an update on its recent operations, stressing its continued efforts in crime prevention and security enhancement across the state.
According to the report, these achievements span the period of July to mid-August 2025.
Addressing Land and Boundary Disputes
The Command noted that Ebonyi State, being largely agrarian, often faces recurring disputes over farmland and boundary lines.
To prevent these crises from escalating, the police have implemented early warning systems to detect and de-escalate tensions before they spiral out of control.
Commissioner of Police Anthonia Uche-Anya explained that the Command also employs non-kinetic approaches, working with community stakeholders to resolve conflicts through dialogue rather than violence.
Arrest of 131 Suspects
Between July and mid-August 2025, the police arrested a total of 131 suspects, including 120 men and 11 women, for various offences.
Out of these, 52 have been charged to court while investigations continue for others who will be arraigned soon.
Recovery of Arms and Vehicles
The Command confirmed the recovery of six stolen vehicles, 15 firearms, and 50 rounds of ammunition.
Several criminal hideouts across the state were also dismantled during operations.
Anti-Kidnapping Operations in Ohaukwu LGA
Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit raided a hideout in Umuogodo-Akpu Ngbo, Ohaukwu LGA.
The operation led to the arrest of Icha Chidiebere and the recovery of an AK-47 rifle, a Dakota vehicle, and a Lexus 330 SUV without registration number.
Robbery Syndicate Busted in Onueke
The Special Anti-Cult Squad apprehended a syndicate that had been robbing residents of Onueke of motorcycles at gunpoint.
One suspect, Nwali Sunday, was arrested while a stolen KC Sanyang motorcycle was recovered.
Efforts are ongoing to track down fleeing gang members.
Rescue of Kidnapped Students
Following intelligence reports, operatives of Ikwo Division stormed an uncompleted building where two kidnapped students were held captive.
The victims were rescued unharmed, while three suspects—James Nweke, Oliver Nwali, and Nwojiji Onyebuchi—were arrested.
Prevention of Ihie/Ezza Ekembe Crisis
The Command’s stakeholder engagement strategy successfully prevented a communal clash in the Ihie/Ezza Ekembe axis.
On August 14, 2025, police arrested one Agboti Kingsley, allegedly hired as a mercenary to instigate violence in the community.
Arrests Linked to Ekoli Edda Crisis
Investigations into the Ekoli Edda crisis, which claimed the life of one Udu Nnachi on July 9, 2025, led to the arrest of suspects identified as Amarachi Ude, Idika Ama Okoro, and Sunday Ama Olughu.
The suspects are currently in custody and will be arraigned after investigations.
Police Appreciation and Assurance
Commissioner of Police Anthonia Uche-Anya appreciated residents of Ebonyi for their cooperation and support to the police.
She assured that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property while sustaining peace and socio-economic growth in the state.
