Singer Sean Kingston, born Kisean Paul Anderson, has been sentenced to three and a half years in prison for his involvement in a $1 million fraud scheme involving luxury items.
Conviction and Co-Defendant
Kingston was convicted in March alongside his mother, Janice Eleanor Turner, on charges of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and four counts of wire fraud. Turner received a five-year prison sentence last month.
Fraudulent Acquisition of Luxury Goods
Prosecutors stated that Kingston exploited his celebrity status to obtain high-end items, including a bulletproof Cadillac Escalade, luxury watches, and a 19-foot LED TV, without paying. He allegedly used falsified wire transfer receipts and promised social media promotion to lure sellers.
Immediate Remand Ordered
U.S. District Judge David Leibowitz denied Kingston’s lawyer’s request for a delayed surrender due to health concerns, ordering his immediate imprisonment following the sentencing in a South Florida courtroom.
Prosecutors and Defense Statements
Assistant U.S. Attorney Marc Anton called Kingston a “thief and a conman,” citing years of fraud targeting multiple victims. Defense attorney Zeljka Bozanic argued that the 35-year-old singer lacked financial discipline and had begun reimbursing some victims.
Arrest and Background
Kingston and his mother were arrested in May 2024 during a SWAT raid on his rented Fort Lauderdale mansion. The Florida-born, Jamaica-raised singer became famous at 17 with his 2007 hit, Beautiful Girls.
