Global – Brookfield – Predicts – AI Data Center Capacity to Double by 2025

Brookfield Asset Management forecasts that AI-focused data centers will nearly double to around 15 gigawatts (GW) by the end of 2025, up from 7 GW at the end of 2024.

This surge is part of a longer-term trend projecting total AI data center capacity to reach approximately 82 GW by 2034, over ten times the current size.

Trillion-Dollar AI Infrastructure Investment Forecast

Brookfield expects total global spending on AI infrastructure between 2025 and 2034 to exceed $7 trillion.

This includes $4 trillion allocated for semiconductor chips and supply chains, $2 trillion for AI data centers, and $500 billion each for power and transmission networks plus supporting technologies.

Explosive Growth in AI Compute Hardware

The installed base of GPUs is predicted to grow from 7 million units in 2024 to 45 million by 2034, representing a sevenfold increase.

This expansion reflects the rising demand for AI processing power across industries worldwide.

Inference Workloads to Drive Most AI Compute Demand

By 2030, inference tasks—where AI systems analyze data to make decisions—will account for about 75% of AI computing needs.

This shift will boost the market for GPU-as-a-service solutions, expected to grow from $30 billion in 2025 to over $250 billion in 2034.

Modular Data Centers Key to Supporting Hardware Advances

Brookfield emphasizes the importance of modular data center designs to allow rapid upgrades in power and cooling systems.

This flexibility will accommodate new chip technologies and form factors as AI hardware evolves quickly.
