Freedom fighter Sunday Adeyemo, widely known as Sunday Igboho, became a central figure in the Yoruba Nation agitation after confronting Fulani herders accused of attacking farmers in the South-West.
DSS Raid in Ibadan
On July 1, 2021, operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) stormed his Ibadan residence in an attempt to arrest him. Igboho managed to escape during the raid.
Flight and Arrest in Benin Republic
Following the invasion, Igboho fled Nigeria and attempted to travel to Germany from Benin Republic, where he was arrested at the airport. He faced trial there but was eventually released after interventions by Nigerian leaders.
Igboho’s Allegation
Speaking recently at the palace of the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin Ogunoye III, Igboho alleged that the DSS raid was not just to arrest him, but an attempt to assassinate him.
Claim of Divine Protection
According to him, security operatives fired multiple gunshots at him during the invasion, but he was miraculously unharmed.
“When my house was invaded, they wanted to kill me but failed. Some said my intestines were shattered, others said my leg was broken, but nothing of such happened. They fired guns at me very well, but the prayers of you, my fathers, were answered.
