Ilorin – Destitute Woman Lynched Over False Kidnap Claim Buried Amid Calls for Justice

Khadijat, a destitute woman wrongfully accused of being a kidnapper, has been laid to rest in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, on Thursday.

Wrongful Accusation

The sachet water seller was attacked by a mob at Ipata Market after being accused of attempting to abduct children. Her family has strongly rejected the allegation, describing her as an innocent woman caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Family’s Demand for Justice

Relatives, who confirmed she hailed from Ile Lati Compound, Oke Apomu, Ilorin West LGA, insisted she was not a criminal. They have called on the authorities to bring her killers to justice.

Controversial Claims About Possessions

Reports claimed that Khadijat was found with multiple ATM cards, as well as local and foreign currency. However, the Kwara State Police Command has not confirmed these details.

Police Reaction

The police condemned the jungle justice, stressing that such actions undermine the rule of law. However, when contacted on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, did not confirm if any arrests had been made in connection with the incident.
