Japan Nintendo to air Direct showcase on September 12 ahead of Mario’s 40th anniversary

Reports indicate that Nintendo is preparing to host its next Direct showcase on September 12.

According to multiple anonymous sources cited by VGC, the presentation is already being planned, though its full details remain undisclosed.

Content Creator Hints at the Date

The speculation was further fueled by Nintendo content creator SwitchForce, who hinted on X/Twitter that a Direct would air the same day.

His post jokingly referenced “Nintendo dialing 912” as a playful clue.

Timing Tied to Mario’s 40th Anniversary

The reported date would place the Direct just one day before the 40th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. franchise on September 13.

This has led to widespread expectations that Nintendo might announce a new Super Mario game for the upcoming Switch 2, or possibly unveil a remake of a classic title.

Possible Metroid Prime 4 Update

Fans are also hopeful that the showcase will bring long-awaited news about Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.

First announced in 2017 and rebooted in 2019 under Retro Studios, the game last appeared in June 2024 with a trailer confirming a 2025 release window.

The rumored Direct could provide a concrete release date, and perhaps confirmation of a version optimized for Switch 2.

Tradition of September Directs

It wouldn’t be unusual for Nintendo to host a Direct in September.

Except for 2024, the company has consistently held presentations during this period, making the timing highly plausible.

What Fans Can Expect

While Nintendo has yet to officially confirm the event, the timing and context suggest significant announcements could be on the horizon.

With Mario’s milestone anniversary and major titles awaiting updates, September 12 could prove to be a landmark date for Switch fans.
