Jigawa: APC defeats PDP at Defence Minister’s polling unit

Minister of Defence defeats PDP at Polling Unit as APC wins Jigawa Reps by-election

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defeated the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other opposition parties at the polling unit of Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, the immediate past Governor of Jigawa State and current Minister of Defence, during the recently concluded Garki/Babura federal constituency by-election.

At Polling Unit 002, Babura Kofar Arewa Primary School, where Minister Abubakar cast his vote, the APC polled 188 votes, while the PDP received 164 votes.

Clarification on Polling Unit Results

Earlier reports had mistakenly indicated that APC lost Polling Unit 001, which was wrongly recorded as Polling Unit 002 results.

This correction confirms the APC’s lead at the minister’s polling location.

Prominent Voters Cast Ballots

Both the Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, and the Minister of Education, Mrs. Suwaiba Ahmad, who are from Jigawa State, voted in the election.

Mrs. Ahmad expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the by-election and voiced confidence that the APC would ultimately win.

Security Oversight Ensures Smooth Election

The by-election was conducted under the supervision of Nigeria Police, NSCDC, Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), and other security agencies to ensure order and transparency.

APC Candidate Declared Winner

Following the collation of votes, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Mukhtar Rabiu of the APC as the winner of the Garki/Babura federal constituency by-election.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Isma’il Ibrahim, announced the final results:

By-election Vacancy Context

The by-election was necessitated by the passing of Isa Dogonyaro, the previous representative of Babura/Garki Federal Constituency in the 10th House of Representatives, who died in May 2024 after a brief illness.
