Kaizer Chiefs kicked off their 2025/26 Betway Premiership campaign on a positive note, securing three points in their opening match.
Attack Still a Priority
Despite the strong start, the club’s management remains determined to add more attacking options to the squad.
Velebayi on the Radar
A long-term target, 22-year-old winger Asanele Velebayi, is currently a free agent, putting him firmly within Chiefs’ reach.
Bargain Striker Deal Possible
In addition to Velebayi, the club is also looking at 19-year-old striker Luke Baartman.
Reports suggest they could secure him for as little as R3 million.
Velebayi made 23 league appearances in the 2023/24 season, while Baartman scored twice in nine matches and is considered a player with huge potential.
Experience in Midfield and Defence
Another possible addition is 31-year-old Thibang ‘Cafu’ Phete, a versatile player capable of operating in central defence or as a defensive midfielder.
Phete, who has played in Portugal and the UAE and earned four caps for South Africa, has hinted at a return home.
Local reports suggest Sekhukhune United are currently favourites to sign him.
Could Chiefs Land All Three?
If the Soweto giants manage to secure Velebayi, Baartman, and Phete, they would be strengthening both their attack and defensive depth without a huge financial outlay.
