Johannesburg’s Nkota urges Pirates coach to rotate midfield before Sundowns clash

Former Orlando Pirates winger Mohau Nkota has publicly questioned the tactical approach of his former coach, Abdeslam Ouaddou.
The 20-year-old, who recently joined Saudi Arabian side El Ettifaq, trained with the Buccaneers during pre-season before making his move abroad.

Advice Ahead of Big Clash

Speaking on Metro FM’s Sports Night Amplified, Nkota suggested that Pirates should vary their midfield setup and rotate players more often.
With the team having played two matches this season — one win and one loss — he believes a shake-up is needed before their upcoming MTN8 clash with Mamelodi Sundowns.

Too Much Quality on the Bench

Nkota argued that the Buccaneers have significant talent sitting unused.
“I think most of the time they play the ball at the back,” he said.
“The coach should shuffle the midfield. You have a lot of players, and there’s a big game coming. There’s quality on the bench and even in the stands.”

A Successful Spell at Pirates

During his time at Orlando Pirates, Nkota won the MTN8 in his debut season and reached the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League.
In the 2024/25 campaign, he scored seven goals and provided five assists in 39 matches across all competitions.

National Team Recognition

His performances also earned him a cap for Bafana Bafana earlier this year.
Nkota’s call for tactical flexibility reflects his own experience competing at both club and international levels.
