The Concerned Mushere Youth Vanguard (CMYV) has appealed to Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to honor his commitment to resettle displaced indigenes back in their ancestral homes.
Communities Displaced by Attacks
Speaking during a press briefing in Jos on Saturday, CMYV chairman John Bitrus lamented that residents of Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos Local Government Area have remained in Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps for months.
He alleged that their lands and homes, once abandoned due to attacks by armed Fulani militias, are now being occupied and renamed by the attackers.
Seven Villages Under Occupation
Bitrus listed the affected villages as Hokk, Kaban, Kadim, Nawula, Dulu, Mbor, and Margif. According to him, these communities were overrun by terrorists who killed many residents, destroyed property, and displaced thousands.
Living in Camps and With Relatives
For over four months, survivors have been forced to live in IDP camps, while some stay with relatives in safer villages. Meanwhile, the invaders are said to have settled in their homes, grazed cattle on their farmlands, and built tents.
Militants Moving Freely With Weapons
Bitrus alleged that the armed men continue to move about with weapons, threatening the safety of anyone who dares to return.
“They have built their tents and are grazing on farmlands, while the real owners of the lands are roaming without hope of return,” he lamented.
Call for Urgent Government Intervention
The youth leader reminded Governor Mutfwang of his earlier assurances and pleaded for urgent intervention by the state government and security agencies.
“We want to go back home. Our situation is pathetic. We are pleading with the governor, local authorities, and security forces to rescue us,” Bitrus said.
