Security operatives in Kaduna State have detained Shehu Aliyu Patangi, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) agent, in connection with alleged vote-buying during Saturday’s by-elections.
Patangi was apprehended around 3:30 a.m. at a hotel along Turunku Road in Kaduna metropolis.
The operation involved the Police, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies working together to ensure election integrity.
Cash Recovered for Alleged Voter Inducement
According to DSP Mansir Hassan, spokesman for the Kaduna Police Command, N25,963,000 was recovered from the suspect.
The money was reportedly intended to influence voters in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency poll.
During interrogation, Patangi admitted that the funds were meant for voter inducement and appealed for leniency.
Police Warn Against Election Compromise
Commissioner of Police, CP Rabiu Muhammad, praised the collaboration between security agencies in apprehending the suspect.
He also issued a stern warning that anyone caught attempting to manipulate or compromise the election would face prosecution, regardless of their political affiliation.
