
A fatal road accident occurred in the early hours of Friday at Samawa Village in Garun Malam Local Government Area of Kano State, claiming twelve lives and leaving five others injured.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Kano Sector Command confirmed that the crash took place along the Zaria–Kano highway around 2:40 a.m.
Details of the Accident
The incident involved a DAF Trailer (CF95 model) with registration number KMC 931 ZE, which was carrying both passengers and goods, including Ajinomoto spices.
Investigations by the FRSC revealed that a mechanical fault caused the crash.
The trailer’s cab hook broke, detaching the cab from the trailer body, which led to a loss of control and the subsequent collision.
Casualties and Hospitalization
Of the 19 individuals involved, 12 died on the spot, five sustained injuries, and two escaped unhurt.
The deceased were taken to Nassarawa Hospital, while the injured are receiving care at Kura General Hospital.
FRSC Response and Warning
The Sector Commander, CC MB Bature, who visited the scene, described the crash as preventable.
He urged drivers to avoid overloading vehicles with goods, animals, or passengers, and emphasized strict adherence to traffic regulations to prevent similar tragedies.
On behalf of the Corps Marshal and the FRSC, Bature condoled with the families of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
