The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has revealed that more than 140 people have lost their lives in Katsina and Zamfara states within the past two months.
Party Calls on Tinubu to Declare State of Emergency
The opposition party urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately declare a state of emergency in the two northern states, just as he did earlier in Rivers State.
Statement from ADC Spokesman
Interim National Spokesman of the party, Bolaji Abdullahi, made the appeal in a statement released on Sunday.
He stressed that the situation in Katsina and Zamfara reflects what he described as a complete collapse of Nigeria’s security architecture.
Rising Casualties Reported
According to Abdullahi, more than 140 citizens have been killed in separate attacks in just two months across the two states.
He called the killings “a national tragedy that requires urgent action.”
Recent Attacks Deepen Concerns
Barely four days ago, 50 worshippers were reportedly killed in Katsina State.
In Zamfara, suspected bandits ambushed security operatives and killed two policemen.
Reference to Rivers State Precedent
Abdullahi reminded Nigerians that in March 2025, President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State, suspending all elected officials, including Governor Simi Fubara and his deputy, for six months.
The party said similar measures should be urgently applied in Katsina and Zamfara.
