Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has called on the Red Devils to make a bold move for Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is no longer wanted at Paris Saint-Germain.
Donnarumma Could Bring Stability to Defence
Rooney believes the 26-year-old goalkeeper would provide stability and calmness to Manchester United’s backline if he arrives at Old Trafford.
The former England captain compared the situation to when the club signed Edwin van der Sar, who replaced Roy Carroll and Tim Howard and restored trust within the defence.

According to Rooney, United’s defenders no longer have full confidence in Andre Onana and Altay Bayındır.
He stressed that a reliable goalkeeper is vital for defensive performance, highlighting the need for change.

“I go back to when we had Roy Carroll and Tim Howard in goal,” Rooney said on his YouTube channel.
“There wasn’t 100 percent trust from defenders. But the moment Van der Sar came in, everything calmed down, and you saw better performances.”
Donnarumma’s Quality Praised
Rooney described Donnarumma as one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
He insisted it would be “crazy” if Manchester United failed to sign him, given his age and experience.

His comments came after United’s narrow loss to Arsenal on Sunday, where an error from Bayındır in goal contributed to the defeat.
