The National President of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, has inaugurated 47 shelters for families displaced by the recent flood disaster in Mokwa, Niger State.
Flood Disaster Claimed Over 200 Lives
The flood, which left more than 200 people dead and destroyed properties, forced many residents into unsafe living conditions. The newly launched shelters are designed to restore dignity, safety, and comfort for survivors.
Shelters Equipped With Essential Facilities
Adeaga explained that each shelter comes with boreholes, toilets, and bathrooms to meet basic needs while ensuring displaced families live in a safe and hygienic environment.
Red Cross Mission Of Humanity
Speaking during the unveiling, Adeaga stressed that the Red Cross is not only responding to the disaster but also reaffirming its mission to uphold humanity.
“We are not just in Mokwa to respond to a disaster, but to uphold our shared humanity. Suffering anywhere is a call to action everywhere,” he said.
Relief Materials Distributed To Victims
Alongside the shelters, the Red Cross distributed 500 dignity kits for women and girls and another 500 packages of non-food items to support affected households.
Beyond Emergency Relief
Adeaga emphasized that the Society’s work extends beyond immediate response. He highlighted ongoing efforts in hygiene promotion, community sensitization, group discussions, flood preparedness drills, and first aid training.

The Red Cross President urged individuals and organizations to continue supporting humanitarian actions, noting that collective efforts can help build a safer and more compassionate world
