The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) will commence on August 25, 2025, and continue for one year in preparation for the 2026 elections.
Both Online and Physical Registration Available
Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi, revealed in an interview with Channels Television that the exercise will be conducted both online and at designated physical centers across the country.
811 Centers Designated Nationwide
Oyekanmi explained that INEC has set up 811 registration centers nationwide, including its 774 local government offices and state headquarters, to ensure accessibility for citizens.
Open to First-Time Voters and New Adults
The exercise targets Nigerians who have just turned 18 and those who have never registered before.
Warning Against Multiple Registrations
Oyekanmi cautioned that registering more than once is a criminal offense, stressing that the commission’s system will detect and flag duplicate entries.
Registration Centers List Now Online
Addresses of all registration centers have been uploaded to the INEC website, and a contact center has been established to respond to inquiries.
Call for Early Registration
The CPS urged eligible voters to register early instead of waiting until the last minute to avoid unnecessary congestion at registration points.
Ample Time Provided to Avoid Delays
He emphasized that the one-year duration gives Nigerians enough time, warning against creating a last-minute rush that could pressure INEC offices
