The Pebble brand is back in action.
Not only has the original creator returned to develop modern versions of the iconic smartwatch, but Core Devices has also reclaimed the Pebble trademark, ensuring the brand lives on.
Among the new lineup is the much-anticipated Pebble Time 2, now revealed in its finalized design.
Pebble Time 2 Final Design Unveiled
Eric Migicovsky, Pebble’s founder, has showcased the final version of the Pebble Time 2.
Previously, the watch was announced in an unfinished prototype form, but the current version is expected to reflect the product’s final design, barring any last-minute adjustments.
The updated watch looks polished, modern, and refined compared to earlier prototypes.
Sleeker and More Modern Aesthetic
The Pebble Time 2 shows a significant design evolution from prior prototypes.
Unlike the earlier blocky “H” look, the final version is smaller, sleeker, and has a premium appearance.
It combines classic Pebble OS buttons with modern design cues, creating a refined smartwatch experience.
Features and Build Quality
The watch boasts a 1.5-inch 64-color e-paper display with a narrow bezel, offering exceptional visibility and a 30-day battery life.
Its body is constructed from stainless steel 316, with metal top and bottom elements and a screw-enclosed housing.
The buttons feature a knurling effect similar to the Pebble Time Steel.
Compared to the original prototype, the Time 2 has a larger screen but a shorter lug-to-lug length, resulting in a smaller, more comfortable feel on the wrist.
The flat glass lens removes the double-reflection issue seen on the Pebble Time Steel’s curved glass.
Inspiration from Past Designs
The final design takes cues from a 2016 concept codenamed “Bolt,” which also used a 1.5-inch e-paper display.
The team drew from this earlier model to create a modern, refined smartwatch that honors Pebble’s design heritage.
Pre-Order Options and Upgrades
For customers who pre-ordered the Pebble 2 Duo, the company is offering a chance to switch to the Pebble Time 2 without losing their spot in line.
A survey will be sent within the next month, allowing pre-order holders to make the change.
The company advises against canceling existing Pebble 2 Duo orders, as doing so would place the customer at the back of the queue.
Of course, those who prefer the Pebble 2 Duo can retain their original pre-order.
Compatibility and User Choice
This upgrade option ensures flexibility for early supporters of the Pebble line.
Customers can choose the Time 2 for its finalized design or stick with the 2 Duo if they prefer its features.
The approach ensures Pebble enthusiasts can enjoy the device that best fits their taste and wrist comfort.
