The Springboks have officially trimmed their squad to 45 players ahead of the 2025 season opener against the Barbarians on June 28.
This decision marks a key milestone in Rassie Erasmus’ preparations for a competitive international schedule.
Key reinforcements have joined the camp, including the Bulls players, Leinster lock RG Snyman, and Leicester Tigers flyhalf Handre Pollard.
These players arrived after completing their duties in the United Rugby Championship and English Premiership.
Their inclusion brings the Springboks very close to a complete squad.
Thomas du Toit and Boan Venter Yet to Arrive
Two players, prop Thomas du Toit and recently called-up Boan Venter, have not yet joined the team.
Du Toit is expected to link up with the squad within the next week, in line with international regulations.
Boan Venter will arrive later, officially joining the team on Sunday, June 29.
Due to their late arrival, both players are unlikely to be available for the match against the Barbarians.
However, they are expected to be in contention for selection in the upcoming Incoming Series fixtures.
Boan Venter’s Consistent Performance Recognized
Rassie Erasmus praised Boan Venter’s recent form when commenting on his selection.
He noted that Venter has been a consistent performer for Edinburgh in the United Rugby Championship and the EPCR Challenge Cup.
Erasmus also highlighted Venter’s familiarity with South African rugby, having come through the junior ranks and played for the Cheetahs.

Upcoming Fixtures in the 2025 Season
The Springboks are set to face the Barbarians for the Qatar Airways Cup on Saturday, June 28.
Following that, they will play back-to-back Test matches against Italy in Pretoria on July 5 and Gqeberha on July 12.
They will conclude their Incoming Series campaign with a match against Georgia in Nelspruit on July 19.
These games will be vital in testing the depth and form of the trimmed squad.
Springboks Balance Family Time and Final Preparations
The squad is currently scheduled to return home on Thursday to spend time with their families.
They will reconvene in Cape Town on Sunday, just before their high-profile match against the Barbarians.
