Three individuals reportedly lost their lives in a multiple-vehicle accident in Edo State over the weekend.
The incident occurred along the Auchi–Okpella–Okene road, near Omega Fire Ministry in Auchi, Etsako West Local Government Area.
Vehicles Involved in the Crash
Authorities reported that the accident involved a Dangote truck and three other vehicles, including a Mercedes GLK.
The Mercedes was reportedly destroyed beyond repair due to the impact.
Cause and Immediate Impact
The truck, traveling towards Benin, collided with the three vehicles, resulting in three fatalities and one immediate injury.
The deceased were identified as two males and one female.
FRSC Confirms Brake Failure
Cyril Mathew, Edo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident and attributed it to brake failure.
He stated, “The truck had a brake failure, and in the process, rammed into three vehicles, killing three persons and injuring one.”
Details on the Victims
Mathew further explained that six individuals were involved in the crash.
Three people died, including two men and one woman, while two others escaped unhurt.
Four people had been in the Mercedes GLK; three perished, and one was injured.
FRSC Advisory to Truck Drivers
The FRSC commander urged truck drivers to regularly maintain their vehicles and be mindful of other road users.
He emphasized the importance of avoiding overspeeding to better control vehicles in case of mechanical failures, reducing the risk of accidents.
