
The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has officially announced the opening of its postgraduate admission for the 2025/2026 academic session.
This application window is open to candidates interested in diploma, master’s, M.Phil., and Ph.D. programmes.
The session will run from 2nd October 2025 to 30th September 2026.

Postgraduate Programmes Available
Ph.D. Programmes
Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (M.A., M.Ed., M.Eng., M.Sc., LL.M, or M.P.H.) with a minimum of 60% or a CGPA of 4.0/5.0.
Duration:
- Full-time: 36–60 months
- Part-time: 48–72 months
Students must complete a research project.
M.Phil./Ph.D. Programmes
For candidates with a CGPA of 3.5–3.99 or a score between 55% and 59.99%.
Duration:
- Full-time only: 12–24 months
Students may transfer to full Ph.D. if they achieve 60% after the first year.
M.Phil. Programmes
For candidates with a CGPA between 3.0–3.49 or 50%–54.99%.
Duration:
- Full-time: 18–24 months
Students will complete a research-based project.
Master’s Programmes (M.A., M.Ed., M.Eng., M.Sc., LL.M, M.P.H.)
Entry requires a minimum of a second-class lower degree.
Duration:
- Full-time: 18–24 months
- Part-time: 36–48 months
Programmes include coursework and research.
Postgraduate Diplomas (PGD)
Open to applicants with a third-class bachelor’s degree.
Programmes are completed through coursework.
Who Can Apply for UNILORIN Postgraduate Admission?
To qualify for application, candidates must:
- Have all certificates ready at the time of application
- Present their NYSC discharge or exemption certificate by 30th September 2025
- Upload scanned copies of credentials during application
- Send hard copies of the printed application form and documents to their chosen department by 6th June 2025
- Ensure transcripts are sent directly to the department (UNILORIN does not accept responsibility for lost transcripts)
O’Level Requirements
All applicants must have five credit passes including English Language and Mathematics.
However, those who completed their O’Level before 2015 may be allowed a pass in either subject.
Additional Master’s Degree Rules
If you are applying for a Master’s degree outside your undergraduate course, you must pass a qualifying test.
Ph.D. Specific Rules
Ph.D. applicants must attend a departmental interview.
Only those with the required Master’s qualification will be considered.
International Applicants
International students from countries where English is not the first language must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.
Foreign candidates applying from outside Nigeria are exempt from the entrance test.
Qualifying Examination
A compulsory qualifying exam is required for all PGD and Master’s degree applicants.
UNILORIN graduates with a First Class or Second Class Upper in the same course are exempted.
