The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) task force has cleared suspected criminal hideouts in the Apo Cadastral Zone District after security intelligence identified the area as a major hub for criminal activities in Apo and neighbouring communities.
Notorious Dark Spot Targeted for Total Clearance
Director of the FCTA Department of Development Control, Mukhtar Galadima, described the site as one of Abuja’s most notorious “dark spots.” He noted that previous attempts at clearing the area were partial, but this latest operation was a complete demolition.
Security Intelligence Confirmed Ongoing Threats
Galadima revealed that intelligence and security reports linked the location to multiple crimes, including violent attacks. He added that the demolition aimed to permanently dismantle the base and prevent criminals from returning.
“This time, we will remove everything and even fence the place,” he stated.
New Strategy to Prevent Criminal Regrouping
While withholding full details, Galadima hinted at new measures to ensure the site remains crime-free, stressing that the FCTA would take decisive steps to stop reoccupation.
Ongoing Security Challenges in Apo
The Director of FCTA Security Department, Adamu Gwary, represented by Dr. Peter Olumuji, confirmed the area had long been a hotspot for crimes such as drug trafficking, armed robbery, and burglary.
He cited a recent incident where over 50 armed robbers attacked residents but were repelled by security forces.
Part of City-Wide Crime Reduction Plan
Olumuji explained that the demolition was part of a broader FCTA initiative to dismantle criminal enclaves across Abuja and restore public safety in high-risk zones.
Police Back FCTA Action
Police officers from the Apo Division, who monitored the operation, welcomed the move, calling it a significant step towards improving security in the community.
Residents are expected to see immediate relief following years of criminal activity in the area.
