The shooting took place late on the evening of April 16, 2025, as Teron was reportedly involved in a confrontation in the vicinity of The Colibrí Community School on Clinton Avenue.
Teron, aged 34, was found unconscious and unresponsive by police officers who arrived at the scene after receiving reports of unruly conduct.
Emergency responders quickly transported him to St. Barnabas Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The fatal gunshot wound struck his head, a devastating blow that ended his life and shocked his family and community.
Authorities are investigating the incident, and Teron’s brother, Jorge, believes that the shooting could be linked to a previous altercation Carlos had in the neighborhood.
Jorge described his brother as a devoted father to his 2-month-old son, Cairo, noting that Carlos had been working hard to create a better life for his family.
He had recently acquired a new car and an apartment, marking a fresh chapter in his life.
Carlos Teron had been a respected figure in the boxing world during his amateur career, which spanned from 2004 to 2008.
He had over 100 fights under his belt and won the prestigious 2007 USA Boxing Junior Metropolitan Championships.
Despite his promising career, Teron eventually moved away from the sport and worked as a sanitation worker.
In the wake of his death, the Teron family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral and memorial expenses, urging those who knew Carlos to contribute.
