The Federal Government has announced plans to distribute fresh cash transfers to 2.2 million households across Nigeria.
The scheme, which has already consumed N419 billion, is part of efforts to reduce poverty and support vulnerable families.
Minister Confirms August Kick-Off
The Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Tanko Sununu, revealed this during an interview with Channels Television on Monday.
He confirmed that the program will officially begin before the end of August 2025.
Distribution Pattern Across Regions
According to Sununu, the government has already disbursed funds to five million Nigerians.
About 71 percent of the transfers went to the northern region, while 21 percent reached the southern part of the country.
Targeting Vulnerable Nigerians
The minister explained that the National Social Safety-Net Coordinating Office (NASSCO) is responsible for identifying beneficiaries.
The selection is based on the lowest cadre of citizens listed in the national social register.
Rapid Conditional Cash Transfer
Sununu emphasized that the initiative is a rapid conditional cash transfer aimed at providing immediate relief to the poorest households.
He noted that the program has already impacted millions and will continue to expand in the coming months
