The Inter-Party Advisory Committee, IPAC, in Ogun State has advised political parties that contested Saturday’s House of Representatives by-election for Remo Federal Constituency to either accept the outcome or seek redress in court.
The Chairman of Ogun IPAC, Abayomi Sanyaolu, gave the advice in Abeokuta, the state capital, during an interaction with journalists.
Warning Against Violence
Sanyaolu cautioned all political stakeholders against acts capable of disrupting the peace and coexistence of residents in Ogun State.
He stressed that the duty of IPAC is to promote unity and ensure a violence-free political atmosphere across the state.
APC Candidate Declared Winner
The by-election produced Adesola Ayoola-Elegbeji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the winner.
She polled 41,237 votes to defeat her closest rival, Bola Oluwole of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who scored 14,324 votes.
INEC officially declared Mrs. Ayoola-Elegbeji as the elected representative for the Remo Federal Constituency.
IPAC Advocates for Legal Pathway
Sanyaolu reiterated that if any political party was dissatisfied with the electoral process, the proper channel is the court of law.
He recalled how IPAC once challenged the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission in court after the local government elections last year, eventually securing judgment in their favor.
Commitment to Peaceful Progress
The Ogun IPAC chairman emphasized the importance of maintaining peace for the continued growth and progress of the state.
He urged political actors to prioritize harmony above personal interests, stressing that “there must be no bloodshed or crisis after the election.”
