The Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has said that the Southeast region will produce Nigeria’s president when the time is right according to God’s plan.
Speaking on Saturday during a courtesy visit from the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and his delegation in Ebonyi, Umahi stressed the importance of political re-engagement by the Southeast.
Presidency Requires Political Strategy, Not Sentiment
Umahi, who is also a former governor of Ebonyi State, emphasized that the presidency cannot be won through sentiment alone.
He called on the people of the Southeast to support other regions, adding that when the time comes, nothing will stop the region from producing the country’s leader.
In a lighter tone, he joked that he himself might be the one chosen at that time.
Umahi Praises Tinubu’s Economic Reforms
The Minister also highlighted what he described as Nigeria’s improving economy under President Bola Tinubu.
He pointed to a drop in inflation to 21.8 percent and foreign reserves of over $40 billion.
According to Umahi, international institutions and figures such as Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala have commended Tinubu’s reforms.
Comparing Past and Present Federal Presence
Reflecting on his experience as governor, Umahi said he never witnessed strong federal government involvement in Ebonyi like he does now.
He suggested that the current administration’s policies have brought more visibility and impact to the region.
