The All Progressives Congress (APC) has secured major wins in Edo State as Joseph Ikpea and Omosede Igbinedion emerged victorious in the Edo Central Senatorial District and Ovia Federal Constituency bye-elections.
According to reports, both candidates were officially declared winners by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Ikpea Wins Edo Central Senatorial Seat
Joseph Ikpea was declared the winner of the Edo Central Senatorial District election with a total of 105,129 votes.
He defeated his closest rival, Joe Okojie of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who garnered 15,146 votes.
Professor Kingsley Ubaorji, the INEC Returning Officer, announced the results on Sunday at Ubiaja, the administrative headquarters of Esan South-East Local Government Area.
Omosede Igbinedion Clinches Ovia Federal Constituency Seat
At the Ovia Federal Constituency bye-election, Hon. Omosede Igbinedion of the APC emerged victorious with 77,053 votes.
She defeated Johnny Aikpitanyi of the PDP, who polled 3,838 votes, while the Action Democratic Congress (ADC) candidate, Dr. Sandra Asemota, secured 925 votes.
Her victory was announced by Professor Clement Ighodalo, the Returning Officer for the Ovia Federal Constituency bye-election, at the Ovia West Local Government Council Hall in Iguobazuwa.
Ikpea Dedicates Victory to God and the People
In his victory speech, Senator-elect Joseph Ikpea expressed gratitude to God and the people of Edo Central.
He said the outcome of the election showed that the people had chosen “vision over sentiment, and progress over politics-as-usual.”
Ikpea pledged to work closely with Governor Monday Okpebholo, the APC, and community leaders to ensure effective representation for Edo Central.
Promises of Quality Representation
Ikpea also promised to focus on key areas including infrastructure, youth empowerment, education, healthcare, and strengthening traditional institutions.
He commended Governor Okpebholo for his leadership qualities and unwavering support throughout the campaign.
