Former Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille has shared a positive experience she had while taking a metered taxi in Cape Town.
This comes shortly after an Uber driver was tragically shot and burned by angry taxi operators at Maponya Mall, Johannesburg.
Hassle-Free Airport Ride
On her X account, Zille recounted taking a taxi from Cape Town International Airport with her children away.
She said the airport’s authorised taxi desk provided quick and friendly service, assisting with luggage and guiding her to a waiting car.
She described the driver as professional, courteous, and efficient, noting that the experience was hassle-free.
Zille added that she plans to use metered taxis more often, calling them a good, affordable alternative to pricier transport options.

Zille has also shared details about her personal vehicle, showing she has no qualms driving cars considered modest for her status.
The former DA leader, who now chairs the party’s Federal Council, drives a Toyota Yaris.
Earlier this year, the 74-year-old revealed she was upgrading her 25-year-old Corsa to another affordable option, confirming the choice as a Toyota Yaris.
Toyota introduced the Yaris to South Africa in 2005, where it became one of the brand’s best-selling models globally. Recent years have seen slower sales and discontinuation in some countries.
