Fresh details have emerged regarding Chidiebere Ohama, the suspected vandal arrested last week in Umuahia for allegedly stealing a ladder from the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).
The suspect was initially apprehended by a local vigilante group at Mission Hill, Umuahia, and later handed over to the police for formal prosecution.
Previous Crime at Umuahia Hotel
According to Mr. Ikenna Sochima, a hotel owner on New Road, Umuahia, Ohama and his gang reportedly broke into his hotel in July 2025.
The group allegedly climbed a ladder into the premises and entered a guest room, stealing money and other valuables belonging to one of his guests.
CCTV Footage Leads to Identification
Sochima explained that when the guest discovered the missing items, he raised an alarm.
Upon reviewing CCTV footage, the hotel proprietor identified the suspects’ faces and alerted the Operation Crush security team.
The team tracked Ohama to a forest area known as “Down Below” and confirmed his identity before apprehending him.
Confession and Police Handover
Ohama reportedly confessed to the crime when confronted with the evidence.
He was subsequently handed over to the police at the time.
The hotel owner expressed surprise that Ohama, arrested recently for vandalism, claimed the ladder theft was his first criminal act.
