E-commerce platform Takealot has refuted recent online claims suggesting it is selling the popular weight loss drug Ozempic.
The injectable medication, which contains Semaglutide, is strictly available through a doctor’s prescription.
Online Rumors Spark Confusion
On the X app, several users posted messages claiming Takealot was offering Ozempic to the public without requiring a prescription.
One user, ApheleleJody, shared a screenshot of an image labeled “Semaglutide: Once a week weight loss injections,” fueling speculation.
Takealot Clarifies the Listing
Takealot quickly addressed the misunderstanding, explaining that the image referenced a book on weight loss methods, not the drug itself.
The e-commerce site stated: “It’s purely informational, not medical advice or a substitute for professional care. Happy shopping.”
On its X account, Takealot added: “Hi Aphelele, we do not sell Ozempic. The listing you’re seeing on our website is a book exploring natural methods sometimes referred to as ‘natural Ozempic.’ It’s purely informational, not medical advice or a substitute for professional care. Happy shopping🛍️🛒🙂”
Other Online Platforms Selling Ozempic
While Takealot denied selling the drug, another South African e-commerce platform, Zulzi, confirmed it stocks and delivers Ozempic.
The grocery and pharmacy delivery service promises dispatch in as little as 15 minutes.
Prescription Requirements and Safety
Zulzi emphasized that Ozempic remains prescription-only.
It explained that a qualified doctor and pharmacist are available at its Paulshof offices.
Customers must consult a doctor, obtain a prescription, and upload it via the app for delivery.
